Get DEVOTED this summer

Devoted201505

We lead busy lives at all times and during the summer we often find ourselves trying to cram in even more activities and events.  And when that happens, it’s so easy to make church just one more thing we do, adding it to our long list of jobs and hobbies and watching it being pushed further and further from the centre of our lives.

Well, this summer let me invite you to go the other way – to get more DEVOTED and not less.  Over the summer, we will be looking together at Acts 2:42-47, a brief but packed description of how that first church managed to stay together and on mission even as they lived their own busy lives.  For 6 Sundays (from 19th July) our DEVOTED series will consider each aspect of church life mentioned in the passage and discuss together what it meant to be devoted to teaching, fellowship, worship, prayer, communion, and generosity.

As we have done before over the summer break, I have invited new speakers from the church to come and share these messages.  It will be great to hear voices normally unheard and to hear testimonies from those who are seeking to devote themselves to church, even as they juggle families, relationships and careers.

So come and be encouraged, come and be challenged.  We often look with envy at the things that first church saw and we often struggle to relate our church life to theirs.  I think we really believe it to be some unrealistic and unachievable dream.  However I am convinced God gave us this vision of church to inspire us rather than disappoint us.  So let’s get DEVOTED this summer, let’s consider together that real life church and let’s seek to build and become a real life church that impacts our community as they did theirs.
